Interior Decorating in Cambridge and Foxton

Good interior decorating is mostly about what you do not see: the filling, sanding and priming that happens before any colour goes on. It is the difference between a room that looks fresh for a few months and one that still looks right years later.

Some customers want one tired bedroom put right; others hand us the keys to an entire house while they are away. Both get the same order of work and the same standard of finish.

How an interior job runs

We start with a visit to see the rooms, talk about colours and finishes, and look at the condition of the walls and woodwork. You then get a clear written quote.

On the first day we move and cover furniture, put down dust sheets and protect floors. We work through preparation first, then ceilings, walls and finally woodwork, so each stage is protected from the next. We tidy up at the end of each day and leave the rooms usable wherever we can.

Preparation

We fill cracks and holes, sand back rough or flaking paint, spot-prime repairs and caulk gaps along skirting and architrave. On older walls, lining paper can even out a surface that would otherwise show every bump. Where plaster has failed, small areas can be repaired as part of the job.

Paints and finishes

We use trade-quality paints from established manufacturers and choose the product to suit the room: washable emulsions for hallways and kitchens, moisture-resistant finishes for bathrooms, and durable eggshell or satin for woodwork. If you have a particular brand or colour chart in mind, we are happy to work with it.

Typical timescales

As a rough guide, a single average bedroom often takes a couple of days including preparation, and a full house can take one to three weeks depending on size and condition. We will give you a realistic timescale with your quote.

Full room and full house redecoration

Full room redecoration means looking at the space as a whole, rather than painting around tired details. We agree whether ceilings, walls, doors, frames and skirting are included, and discuss anything that needs removing before work begins. That makes the scope clear and helps avoid an unfinished edge where old and new decoration meet.

For full house redecoration, the order matters just as much as the colours. We discuss access, drying time and which rooms you need each evening. Hallways and stairs need particular planning because they connect everything else. If other trades are involved, we agree when decorating should start so fresh surfaces are not damaged by later work.

We often use Farrow & Ball and Little Greene when their colours and finishes suit the room. The name on the tin is only part of the decision: we also consider the existing coating, how often the surface will be cleaned and the light at different times of day. Samples help you judge these choices before committing to a whole room.

Before we leave, we check edges, coverage and the agreed woodwork together. We can explain how to look after the new finish and when it is ready for normal cleaning. Paint can feel dry before it has fully hardened, so giving it the recommended curing time helps prevent early marks.
